Arizona High School dedicates pages to teenage pregnanices

Did we start glamorizing teen pregnancies with shows like Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant? You could argue yes, after some teenagers were trying to get pregnant so they could appear on MTV. The media has more power than you might think.

Recently, Mesa High School has included two pages in their Yearbook’s dedicated to photos of the difficulties of what it’s like to be a teenager parent. Is the school trying to glamorize getting pregnant young? No. It’s actually bringing unwanted attention to the teenage parents.

Kathee Merkley, the mother of one of the 17-year-old mother’s featured in the yearbook stated that the pages in the Yearbook have started negative conversation among her daughter’s friends. Kathee also stated that she was disturbed to see a male student hugging the belly of a pregnant teenager.

Helen Hollands, the school’s Spokeswoman told FoxNews that “A yearbok is to commemorate the achievements of the students, particularly the senior class. Probably this would not fall into that category.”
