What in God’s name is cheese rolling? Is it competitive, and how do I get involved?
an estimated 5000 people gathered in Glouestershire for the unofficial traditional cheese-rolling race. The event was originally cancelled in 2010, but fans of the sport decided that something as great as cheese-rolling must live on.
This tradition dates back to the 19th century, and has continuously grown in popularity. In fact, for the past 25 years, 87-year-old Diana Smart has been providing cheese for people to chase down a steep hill.
The first victor, unemployed 19-year-old Josh Shepherd said that he was proud of himself for being able to catch the cheese. When asked what he would do with the 8 pound ball of cheese he won, he stated: “I don’t know…I don’t really like cheese unless it’s melted,”
