To put it bluntly, India has a rape problem. It seems like every couple of weeks, a new reported gang rape comes to the media’s attention. The most recent incident involves a 14-year-old girl and her 15-year-old cousin, who entered a field to relieve themselves as they have no toilet. They were raped in the field, and then hung from mango trees nearby.
Enter Babulal Gaur.
Babulal Gaur, for those that don’t actively follow India’s politics, is a senior politician in the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Mod’s party.
Recently, he made comments about rape that has enraged social activists all around the world.
“This [rape] is a social crime which depends on men and women. Sometimes it’s right, sometimes it’s wrong.”
Apparently it’s only sometimes wrong to forcefully engage in sex with a person, that will most likely scar them for the rest of their life.
