Venus Green don’t take no shit from no cop.
In 2009, Venus Green was 87 years old, but that didn’t stop police from barging into her home, handcuffing her, accusing her of shooting her son, and roughing her up damaging her shoulder.
It all started in July 2009, when Venus’ grandson, Tallie, was shot. Tallie claimed that he was shot at a convenience store, but police continued to claim that they knew the shooter was inside of Green’s house, and was either Tallie or Venus.
According to the old lady, officers told her that they knew she shot Tallie, and that they knew the shooting happened inside of the house. Police continued to pressure Venus, eventually entering her home without a warrant after a brief physical altercation with Venus which resulted in her separating her shoulder, and with her on the ground in handcuffs.
Scared and not knowing what to do, when police went to search the basement, Venus locked them downstairs.
In court, Venus said “I was once a block watcher, a department head of a high school. (I’ve) been around education for over 50 years. (I’m a) law-abiding citizen, I’ve never been arrested, I paid my taxes, owned my home, my husband died 34 years ago. (I) raised my son and I have been brutally abused,”
According to Baltimore City solicitor George Nilson, the police department would have had a very difficult time in front of a jury, because they beat up an innocent old lady. That sort of reputation doesn’t exactly win over juries.
As a result, in 2012, Venus was awarded a $95,000 settlement from Baltimore City.
