Well soooooooooooooooooorry for making it easier to find what you’re looking for.
Walmart is taking a new approach to selling their plus-size costumes this year, offering a special section of costumes on their website. This section, bluntly labelled costumes for “fat girls,” has caught the attention of the online community, and most people are outraged.
It’s unclear who is behind the section name, but it was almost certain web designer working for Walmart who used that title as a joke at first, but forgot to rename it when the website went live.
I do things like that all the time. When working on assignments or essays, I usually just title them “Stupid F*cking History Paper” because I’m the only one viewing the file, and it makes things easy to find.
That being said, I don’t work for an international corporation that has hundreds of millions of customers all around the world.
When the incident was first brought to Walmart’s attention, the company responded on twitter with a generic “Your comments and suggestions are important to us and help make Walmart even better.”
Amazingly, this too upset people because it looked like an automated response. Can’t the people in charge of Walmart’s Twitter account take a little bit more time and effort when responded to thousands of tweets per day?
The “Fat girl costumes” section wasn’t visible through Walmart.com’s navigation, but it was found through Google or by clicking on hyperlinks. Walmart has tried to fix the issue, and by 12:35 this afternoon, the “fat girl costumes” title only appears on Google.
