He just wanted to be like Jared.
Alabama Teenager Zachary Rapheal Torrance was arrested after a customer recognized him from CCTV footage that officers posted online to try to catch him.
The 18-year-old reportedly confessed to holding up a Subway inside a Wal-Mart in Hueytown, and police believe that the teenager is responsible for three similar robberies.
When asked why he had robbed the food establishment, he told the detective that he had been on the ‘Subway Diet’ and it didn’t help him lose weight. He claimed that he wanted his money back.
According to local police chief Chuck Hagler: “The detective felt like he was being serious.”
I can hear the detective now: “Are you f*cking kidding me?”
Jared Fogle, a man who claims he lost more than 200 pounds by eating two low-fat sandwiches from Subway everyday became famous after the Subway Diet worked so well for him. Perhaps Torrance heard about Jared and wanted to be just like him.
Torrance has been charged with first-degree robbery and is being held on a $250,000 bond. Police have not released how much money Torrance is suspected of stealing, but hopefully it’s enough to pay for some anger management classes.
Seriously? You’re mad at a fast food company for claiming their food is healthy for you so you ate it every day and didn’t lose any weight? That’s like getting mad at Count Chocula for not actually being an important part of a well-balanced breakfast.
