I don’t even want to imagine what that feels like.
INDIA – A 7-year-old girl was finally freed from the burden of having 202 extra teeth after she was brought to the Oral Care Centre of the All India Institute of Medical Science. The girl was taken there by her family after she complained of severe pain in her mouth, and the fact that her gums were incredibly swollen.
Doctors said that x-rays revealed she suffered from compound odontoma, a tumor composed of normal dental tissues that have grown in an irregular way. We won’t post any photos here, but feel free to look up how disgusting it looks on your own.
Dr Ajoy Roychoudhary, head of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the New Delhi medical institute, said “It was shocking to see.”
It’s a bad sign when your condition surprises the doctors at the hospital.
The seven-year-old girl had to endure two hours of straight surgery so that doctors could remove the extra teeth.
“Normally, we see a few abnormal teeth-like structures in such patients; 202 of them inside the mouth of a 7-year-old is shocking, to say the least,” Roychoudhary explained.
“Though the surgery is simple, it requires high precision since any damage to the adjoining tissues or the jaw line could take a long time to heal. We used a special bone-cutting instrument to remove the tumour in this case,” said Dr Ongkila Bhutia of AIIMS’ Centre of Dental Education and Research.
