School Votes For Communism-Themed Dance Dubbed ‘Prom-Munism’

Ain’t no party like the communist party.

Seniors at a New Mexico high school have voted to hold a prom with a communism theme, whatever the hell that means. I’m not really sure how you can make a high school dance with the theme of communism.

Is there no fee to get in, and the punch and snacks will be evenly distributed in theory, but really there will be a select few behind closed doors that are eating and drinking more than anyone else?

The school, Cottonwood Classic Preparatory decided it was a good idea if students voted online as to what they wanted their theme to be. Of course, one of the joke themes submitted ended up winning, probably because the name was a pun and not the usual Midnight In Paris theme that schools usually go with.

Seriously. How can you vote against Prom-munism?

Cottonwood executive director Sam Obenshain says that the plans to talk to students to make sure that the communism theme is something that they want to embrace.

Although many of the students laughed at the prom theme, others found it offensive. One student said, “I hope that Cottonwood would realize the seriousness of having a very powerful and destructive idea as the theme for a prom.”

I can’t help but agree with that student. When I went to my prom, I didn’t go for a social event with my friends to dance and eat food, I went there looking to change my political ideals and opinions based on whatever the theme of the prom was.

I don’t even remember. That’s how little the theme of prom matters to most people.
